Reflection Prompts for Life Changes

A place to put words around what is changing, what remains and what you need next.

A change can be welcome and still feel unfamiliar. Starting a role, moving home, ending a routine or entering a new season can leave you with questions that do not fit neatly into a plan. Reflection gives you somewhere to name them without needing to resolve them all at once.

These prompts are starting points you can use in your own journal. SUUM's life experiences offer shorter question sets, while guided journeys provide more continuity across a theme.

Name the change in ordinary language

You do not need a dramatic explanation of what is happening. Describe the parts of your day that are different, including the small details other people may not see.

An answer can contain more than one feeling. You can be glad about a new opportunity and miss something familiar. The page does not need to choose a single story about the transition.

  • What has changed in my daily life, beyond the way I usually describe it to others?
  • Which part of this change feels clear, and which part is still taking shape?

Notice what you are carrying forward

A change does not erase everything that came before it. It may help to notice the people, values or habits you still want around you, without requiring them to look exactly as they did before.

You can come back to these questions later. What feels important in the first week of a change may be different from what you notice after you have lived with it for a while.

  • What would I like to carry into this next season?
  • What expectation from the old situation may no longer fit?

Make room for a practical next step

Reflection does not have to end with an ambitious goal. A useful next step might be a question to ask, a small routine to keep or an ordinary source of support to reconnect with.

Choose a step that fits the circumstances rather than one that makes your journal sound complete. You can also finish the entry with an unanswered question.

  • What would make the next few days a little easier to navigate?
  • Who or what would I like to make time for while things are changing?

Choose a private place to return

SUUM keeps your journey responses and personal archive private. Community sharing is optional, and the public community feed contains only anonymous reflections approved for sharing. You can write for yourself without publishing anything.

If you want to explore a particular moment without following a long sequence, start with life experiences. If you prefer a path you can return to, read about guided journeys. The pricing page explains current plans and access.
